Learn about the benefits of Green Purchasing and Biobased Products.
Please join us at the City of Keene, Public Library, 60 Winter St. in Keene, NH, on August 30th, from 9:00 a.m. to noon to learn about the value of green purchasing and the role that biomass products can play in a green purchasing program. The $20.00 workshop fee includes continental breakfast, and handouts.
This workshop will provide an overview of the benefits of green purchasing and the role of biobased products in a green purchasing program. Green purchasing, also known as environmentally preferable purchasing (EPP), means buying products that have a reduced environmental impact while maintaining the same quality and performance. Sara Johnson, NH DES Pollution Prevention Coordinator, and Patricia Carrier, New Hampshire Ball Bearings, Peterborough, will discuss the role of Green Purchasing in business and the basics of developing an EPP program.
Our federal government defines a biobased product as "a commercial or industrial product (other than food or feed) that utilizes biological products or renewable, domestic agricultural (plant, animal, or marine) or forestry materials." Biobased products are a good starting point for environmental purchasing considerations. Because these products use renewable resources, one of the positive environmental attributes identified by EPA, they are often considered environmentally preferable. Rick Handley of the Northeast Regional Biomass Program will provide an overview of the range of biobased products, including, but not limited to, lubricants, degreasers, and cleaning products.
Distributors of biobased products will also be presenting, including Jacqueline and William Carmier of Renewable Lubricants, Inc., who will discuss lubricants and hydraulic fluids.
