Northeast Regional Biomass Program

US Biofuels Production Potential

August 2007

The National Biomass Partnership has developed an Excel spreadsheet for estimating biofuels production. Developed in response to a request from the United States House of Representatives, Committee on Agriculture, the National Biomass Partnership believes this information will be useful to many people interested in biofuels production.

The Excel spreadsheet is a useful tool for estimating biofuels production potential for both ethanol and biodiesel from corn and several cellulosic feedstocks. This spreadsheet can be used to estimate biodiesel potential on soybean oil and waste grease. It does not include all feedstocks such as small grains like barley or wheat, nor does it include other oil seed crops. The interactive spreadsheet allows the user to choose a state or group of states and automatically generate results graphically and in table formats.

The National Biomass Partnership is a collaboration of five long-standing regional biomass energy programs which encompasses all 50 states, two U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia. Activities are guided by a committee comprised of the representatives of four convening governors’ organizations, state representatives, and the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO).
